Space Transmission, Taiwan

Performance

LUMEN is an artwork which expresses our ever changing relationship and perception of space and time. The sculpture will be installed in Taiwan in 2022. It expresses in form, light and sound the ever changing star-scape above Taichung. Using a live NASA feed from the sun, a bespoke light and sound system will express the live energy of the sun and the real time positions of the stars above Taichung on and in the sculpture.

This is a short film of an installation and performance called Space Transmission where U.K. and Taiwanese artists Wolfgang Buttress, BE, Tony Doggen Foster, Kev Bales, Justin Goodyer, Fu-jui Wang, Lu Yi and She-Chiang Chen collaborated to create an improvised live performance in Taipei on May 12th 2019. Wolfgang Buttress Studio designed and developed a midi controller called a "Starbox" which allows the user to play the stars in real time. The recording of the performance which used star boxes and real instruments is currently being curated to create a library of musical stems which the sculpture LUMEN will draw from and express the ever changing cosmos around us.
