Blossom Soundscape

Soundscape Composition

The soundscape composition for Blossom is an ever-changing tapestry of musical stems and field sounds from the tree and it’s ecosystem.

The soundscape composition was written in Quadraphonic surround format specifically for the spatial experience within the room of the artwork, enveloping the listener in a sonic journey of the minor key, documenting the dying tree. Extremely sensitive vibration sensing accelerometer devices are fitted to the tree, live streaming their data, which is analysed by the studio’s machine learning algorithms to identify specific activities.

Sounds are triggered within the soundscape by the live natural activity happening within the tree and it’s environment in Southwell, UK. The soundscape features the sounds of insects within the tree, wind across it’s leaves, osmosis of water through the trunk and birdlife.
